NBMA members, residents of Norway Bay and surrounding community,

For those who live in the area of Norway Bay, we hope you are enjoying the winter wonderland around you. For summer residents, you can look forward to warmer days ahead and the joys of cottage living.

We have all hoped that the Covid 19 related restrictions would be behind us by now, but that is not the reality of the day. Policies and guidelines are being revised regularly.

In the past, around the end of January, the Norway Bay Municipal Association has posted the request for applications for summer employment opportunities. Due to the present uncertainties, however, we have made a decision to delay the start date of the recruitment process until around April 1, at which time we hope to have a clearer picture of our program line-up and related staffing needs.

There is much work to be done over the next two months, and beyond. We will continue to monitor the evolution of government policies relating to sports and recreation programs, which will ultimately determine what activities we can offer and how we deliver them. Consultations with our partnering organizations (Red Cross, Lifesaving Society etc.) for their guidance and advice will be ongoing, and support the planning process. We are absolutely committed to identifying new ways to deliver our core programs, and creating new activities and program offerings that fit within the limitations in place. We are excited by the challenge ahead!

We will keep you informed as the NBMA plans unfold for season 2021.

    Stay safe,

    Norway Bay Municipal Association

    Dear NBMA Members,

When the Board of Directors began discussing plans for the 2020 summer season in January, we were very excited to be planning new social events and activities for this coming summer. Our biggest fear was a repeat of the 2019 flood. We were all hoping for a long slow thaw this spring.

The situation has changed dramatically as you know. COVID-19 is a now serious public health threat and both the federal and provincial governments have developed extensive policies to curb the spread. As a result of these policies, the NBMA Board of Directors is currently considering  pushing the beginning of the  summer season and events back to the week of July 20th.  We are also  considering  plans for a shortened season (4 weeks rather than 6). I realize this may disappoint many children and adults alike but these are unusual times.

As so much remains uncertain, it is very difficult for us to give you a detailed plan for the coming summer at this point.   Nevertheless, we must continue to plan, hire staff and get ready for the summer, and attempt to adapt to whatever situation is thrown at us. Please understand that most  of this is completely out of our control. We can really only react and plan according to what the government allows. The NBMA Board of Directors continues to monitor the situation and we are meeting to discuss contingency plans every two weeks by  phone. Stay tuned...

Please stay safe, and practice social distance.

    Thank you,

    Liam McGahern

    Dear NBMA Members,

With this year's flooding, many people are concerned about the safety of the river water.

The NBMA has been testing the river water for the last few years every week throughout the summer at various spots around the pier, to ensure the water is safe for everyone in all swim programs,  and in our kayak programs.    As Norway Bay was flooded this spring, we will be adjusting our procedures for this summer.

The NBMA will begin testing the river water the week of June 17th and will continue until the end of programming in August.    This year we will test the water in 3 places around the pier and beach twice a week.    As always, should the water have a poor reading, lessons will be suspended until the water is found to be safe again.

The safety of everyone involved in our programming is our number one priority.

If you are concerned about your water, at your cottage/home and  where you swim,  we encourage you to  buy a water test kit (available at Hodgins' Home Hardware in Shawville, or from the Municipality in Bristol).

The water in Norway Bay is still very high.  The swim docks are scheduled to be installed on June 28th, and  all programming will begin on  Canada Day.

    Thank you,

    Your NBMA Executive Board
